About the project

Welcome to the Halton Library Service Image website.

It is an ongoing project to digitise the libraries photographic collections and make them available to the public. It allows people from all over the world, to see these images and promotes the long term care of the collections.

The Borough of Halton was formed in 1974 and became a Unitary Authority in April 1998.

Halton sits on either side of the River Mersey, at its lowest bridging point, in North Cheshire adjacent to Merseyside in North West England.

Halton is made up of the twin towns of Widnes and Runcorn together with the villages of Hale, Moore, Daresbury and Preston Brook.

For help on using the archive and ordering prints, click on the links to the left of this page. You will also be able to go to these help pages from the archive itself.

We have very few details about some of the images in the collection. If you can provide any further information, please use the ‘Can you help’ option underneath the zoom image. We would also be interested to hear about any images you have that may be suitable for inclusion on the site.

New images are always being added to the archive and you can view these by clicking on the 'new images' link to the left of this page.

We hope you enjoy using the archive and are able to find any specific images you are looking for.
